Burkina Faso
Our Planet Project
After extensive research we from All 4 One World decided to focus our attention on a village called Donsé, 25 Km from the capital in a country called Burkina Faso in West Africa.
The decision was made for different reasons:
- Concentrating all projects on one area will bring much more results.
- It is one of the places on this planet that most urgently needs help. According to United Nations (and not only) Africa is being worst hit by global warming.
- We have found the right channels, the right people that can help us assure that the money we bring will be well spent.
- We do not depend on big organizations where we will have no idea what really happens to our money.
- We can help a lot of people and make a lot of land green with relatively little money.
- Having all 5 projects in one place makes it possible to make one project support another. For example building a well (one project) can help a tree-planting project (another project).
Our contact
Mrs. Giuliana Dacasto (65-year-old) is a NGO (Non Government Orgnization) collaborator and director of two projects under way in Burkina Faso and in Senegal in co-operation with Piemonte region, Italy. Mrs. Giuliana Dacasto lives 6-8 months a year in Burkina and does her job as a volunteer not paid. She knows the country's reality and the population's needs very well.
The Projects
We have started with 5 projects that are explained below. It is a major challenge we have begun and we will keep you informed in our monthly Magazine about the developments. The projects have different needs and time span so when one project is complete we will substitute it with another. We will do our utmost to make you feel part of what is happening in Donsé. In our Member Area you will find detailed information.

Project 1

The Well

Water shortages are often a problem, especially in the north of the country.
Outside the village, Dons'e, there is a community of women which, for different reasons (forced wedding's refusal, physical problems, pregnancy outside marriage or from sexual violence, not accepted for some kind of superstition/witchcraft, etc.), have been chased away from the village where they were living. So far, they have been helped and assisted by a catholic sister's group that was managing a small seminary. Unfortunately, this place has been closed causing a serious emergency situation. Mrs. Giuliana Dacasto, who is in touch with them and knows the situation, found out a possible solution: to dig a well for the water. With this well it will be possible to cultivate a vegetable garden, enough for their subsistence and eventually for selling the surplus at the near market, thus creating a small income for them.

Project 2

School

Most parents cannot afford to send their children to school. The United Nations Development Program Report places Burkina Faso as the most illiterate country in the world, with only a 12.8% literacy rate. Helping a child to school is done with less than 50 Euro that for Europeans is less than day salary, in Burkina Faso it is a month salary and most people do not have a salary at all

Project 3

Eyes

In Donsé we are close to the Sahara desert and the dry sandy wind is very hard for the eyes. Due to this many people developed cataract and lost their eyesight. With a simple operation we help them get their sight back. It is a cheap operation and we help many people see again.

Project 4

Tools
|

Starting your own business in Burkina Faso is a different story than what is known in the modern world. With a few hundred Euro (sometimes even less) you can start your own business. With a few tools you can start making baskets or you can repair clothes or fix bicycles. There is infinity of possibilities, only cash is missing.
This project runs a little differently than the other projects because we ask the people to return the money when they start to make profit. We can then help someone else.

Project 5
|
Planting trees
|

Trees are essential for all of us and they are very essential for the people of Donsé. Our tree planting project is much welcome. It will provide work, give shade and produces wood for building and dry wood for cooking.
This project will be the place where the people that have received help from one of our projects can pass on the help by planting trees.
We will give and we will ask the people to give in return, not to us but to their own forest.

The projects are Team Work between All 4 One World staff, Mrs. Giuliana Dacasto and several trusted people in Donsé. No external organization is involved.
It is the All 4 One World Team joining hands with Africa.
